We ARE Venom!
Despite the somewhat lackluster teaser released earlier this year, Sony's Venom film has released a new, full length trailer, and I think we can all agree that these 2 minutes and 21 seconds looked GREAT!
Shifting from the usual Venom backstory, Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) is now a reporter in San Francisco, who seemingly bonds with the Venom symbiote while doing an expose on the mysterious LIFE Foundation (led by Riz Ahmed).
When the rumours came out that the actual Venom costume would have minimal screen time, many fans bemoaned this. I believed that to be a positive thing. Seeing Brock learn the symbiote would make for an interesting second act, and it seems that that is exactly the way this film is going. I loved the disembodied voice of Venom, ripping its conversation with Brock straight from the comics and cartoons.
The tone of the film really excites me. It seems appropriately dark and gritty. I can only hope that the "Marvel humour" does not make its way into this film, as I think it would feel out of place.
This trailer excites me. The potential this movie has is quite high, and hopefully Tom Hardy and company can achieve that potential this October.
